Your Yard Could Kill You

Take your yard back

It’s getting into the warmer climate now and Greenville gets so humid. That means it is a perfect time to get out into your yard and enjoy what the beautiful weather brings. With a warm heart and smiles on our faces at the change in season, we start to think about spending time in our yards. Time with family to enjoy and time perhaps for your children to play outside the home.

Your mind turns to thoughts of Barbecue’s outside with friends and family, and maybe sitting by that new rockery you just put together, and wow! What about that water feature you just installed. It’s all very surreal and fills you with excitement, the Summer’s here at last.

However, not to be the bearer of bad news, but perhaps a little warning that may require you to be a little more proactive with your pest control needs around your home

There are some hidden dangers you need to consider for with all the good that the new season brings, you equally have the threat of pests that can cause disease, injury and damage to your home.

Mosquitoes

You remember that water feature you installed. That is the right conditions needed for mosquitoes to breed. Mosquitoes only need small amounts of water, like a puddle to lay eggs and you probably would not expect that smallest amount to be enough to cause an infestation, but it is. Not only are mosquitoes a terrible annoyance to have in your yard, but they carry a plethora of diseases that are deadly. Sitting by your rockery and enjoying a beer, you’re a target and that mosquito could make you seriously ill. Take mosquito control very serious.

Spiders

Talking about the Rockery you installed. Stunning rocks and beautiful plants adorning every nook and corner of your garden’s creation. Well that is just the right place for the most wicked of female spider’s - the black widow and her bite whilst not fatal, can cause some illness, and of course pain and suffering, not to mention those medical bills.

Ant Invasion

Ants are intelligent beyond measure, and we have many species of ants here in the south. Whilst some are more a nuisance than others, and cause nothing more than an unsightly invasion on your privacy as they forage for sustenance to thrive and survive, there are a couple of species of Ants that we seriously do not want in or around the home. The carpenter ants that infest your home cause so much damage to your home by nesting in rotten wood and stumps. If your home’s crawl space has a moisture problem,  or even around your home, the chances of you offering the right conditions for a carpenter ant invasion is pretty high. Moreover, you do not just get one colony of ants per one invasion, there are many more close by, and that means serious issues in and around your home.

Fire ants are a serious risk because of the dangers they pose due to their aggressive nature, and when they attack - they attack in force, very quickly and sting any potential threat. That threat may be you or your children who inadvertently came across their nest which has just surfaced on that beautiful lawn you worked hard to develop.

Fleas

The very name makes your skin crawl and this is the time of year when your beloved pet can bring in fleas to your home or even spread them throughout your yard. Whilst we love to see our dog or cat play in the yard, with the kids, we often do not consider what vectors they could pick up and bring in, or of course how those vectors can multiply rapidly and before you know it, you have a serious problem on your hand. Fleas spread disease - need a host to survive, and can only last a few days to 2 weeks without a blood meal. They prefer warm shaded spots - perhaps where your dog has been laying or even your cat or the local rodent that has been caught by the cat. As a consequence, it is very easy for your pets to cause flea infestations in your home and in your yard and that makes life unpleasant and dangerous.

What you should do now - Take Action

In order to ensure you have the safest environment to enjoy this summer, make sure you make time for your pest control. A little can go a long way to ensuring your safety, and protect your home and family, not only from physical damage but also from potentially deadly diseases. Starting pest control with your local pest control company is the greatest investment you can make this summer.
